Armada’s Fighting Game coverage from the San Diego Comic Con

Hi, there True BackLash, back again. Man oh man, for a convention dedication to comic books and media related to comic books, the amount video game coverage at this year’s San Diego Comic Con is staggering. If I talked about it all, then Bronze would have nothing for him to cover and that would be just inconsiderate. Besides looking at some the coverage of the fighting games alone is more than enough to wet my appetite. Today, we take a look at the latest DLC character announcement for Mortal Kombat (9), preview a the latest installment in the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise as well as the highly anticipated Street Fighter X Tekken and reveal a once thought dead fighting game series that is hinted at resurrection.

Well enough with the banter, let’s get to it.

Mortal Kombat: Freddy Kruger announced a secret 4th DLC character

Seriously, this is no joke, the mass murdering, dream invading demon from the Nightmare on Elm Street film series is the final character of four added to Mortal Kombat (for those not keeping track, MK vets Rain and Kenshi as well as new Shao Khan minion, Skarlet, were the other three). While I have mixed feelings about his inclusion for various reasons, he’ll be right at home in the game. Kruger will be available to download for the PS3 and XBox 360 versions of the game on August 9th, 2011.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3: 1 new game + 12 new characters = forty more dollars (American)

Well just like Capcom replaced Street Fighter IV with Super Street Fighter IV instead of making DLC for the former, Capcom does it again replacing Marvel vs. Capcom 3:Fate of Two Worlds with Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. On the bad side MvC3 classic becomes a tacky coaster, unless you can trade it in for credit at a video gaming store. Along with that that’s $40 extra needed to get the new characters and features. Eh, what can you do? The characters introduced for this recent installment are Strider Hiryu, Firebrand, Frank West, Phoenix Wright, Vergil, and Nemesis from the Capcom side and Iron Fist, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, Nova, Dr. Strange and Rocket Raccoon from the Marvel side. Game’s set to drop November 15th, 2011.

Street Fighter X Tekken: A New Era of Combat is Here

A 2D game with crazy ki attacks vs a 3D game with attacks closer to real life? Hmmm, why didn’t I think of it? Anyway, Bronze did a piece on this game already, Characters introduced before SDCC were Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Cammy, Guile, Abel and Sagat from Street Fighter and Kazuya, Nina, Hwoarang, Marduk, King, Bob, and Julia from Tekken. Bronze also reported that Cole McGrath PS3 and PS Vita exclusive. Announced at SDCC were Street Fighter’s Dhalsim and Final Fight’s/Street Fighter’s Poison and Tekken’s Yoshimitsu and Steve Fox. It’s also implied that other Final Fighters Hugo, Cody, Guy and possibly Haggar will make it into the game as well. The game hits the shelves, March 2012.

Darkstalkers: IT’S ALIVE!!!!

For those who have waited for over 10 years for a proper sequel, it’s looks like it’s now time. Street Fighter producer, Yoshinori Ono stated that the Darkstalkers series is not dead during the Street Fighter X Tekken panel. G4TV.com takes it a step further and says that a game is being worked on. This is so nuts, I hope we see some progress soon. For the occasion I have the ending theme song for both the Darkstalkers anime and american cartoon series Trouble Man. Have a listen and enjoy.

Well that’s all I got folks, til’ next time, this is TBL saying take care, and get thumbs ready for combat.
