Game Preview – Syndicate demo live today

Fokes, I like shooting thing and I also like science fiction; so when they announced they were remaking a classic PC game (Syndicate) into a dystopian future FPS I was obviously pleased. The only downside (without reviewing the game yet)? The waiting. No longer readers, today the good people at Star Breeze Studios released a Co-Op demo for all non-Wii home consoles. Finally players will be able to get a taste of this ambitious title; will it convert the hardcore faithful of the first game or send them back to their Dosbox emulators? Only one way to find out, download now.

WTF/FTW – The Muppets vs Fox News

Ah, Fox News. A paragon of journalism and objective ethics. They always report their own brand of news without bias or even a hint of  sensationalism. So when they reported that the Muppets were pushing the ‘dangerous liberal agenda’ in there latest movie, we all knew it had to be true. However during a UK press conference the Muppet tried to defend themselves (in vain) in the face of such allegations. Watch this small clip to see them sweat under the pressure – all hail Fox News!

WTF/FTW – For Armada, it was Friday

I… I have no words. Just watch this, seriously: W-T-F/F-T-W…

Games & Gear of 2012 Reloaded – South Park: The Game (12/31/12)

South Park is one of those shows that’s always is on the edge of genius and/or insanity; their humor is often extreme and nothing’s off topic. Whatever they choose to talk about however (whether you agree with it or not) it’s so well done you can’t help but respect Trey Parke, Matt Stone, and all the people involved with the show for there storytelling excellence. Sadly the same can’t be said about their video games. Sure they filled a niche and kept cool with the kids, but in no way were they the same quality of style as the show – until now. The famed creators of the show are writing the entire script for the brand’s latest game called ‘South Park: The Game’ and being brought to life by Obsidian Entertainment. Were I to say it’s just a RPG would be gross understatement on how epic this game will be. You play as a customizable silent protagonist who moved into town just in time for some LARPing, south park style. From there your adventure into the world’s most craziest small town will begin; and how it will end, I guarantee, no one will ever see coming. It’s a good thing this is the last game in the new year because something tells me we’ll need all the time we can get with this one.

Games & Gear of 2012 Reloaded – Kid Icarus: Uprising (3/23/12)

Hey, hey, hey people, just when I typed saying the list was done, they pull me back in. Thanks to release dates, the Game & Gear list of 2012 is back on and reloaded. Sadly its only for a few games, at least it’s a step in the right direction, and with that Kid Icarus: Uprising. Now the closest thing I’ve played of anything dealing with the Kid Icarus series is SSB:B. However the constant trailers I’ve seen on this game has got me excited to be newest member of the Kid coalition. Utilizing the full 3D technology of the Nintendo 3DS is only the beginning for this game. Uprising will feature both intense flight combat and 3rd person shooting elements, different interchangeable weapons, and even wireless multiplayer with created characters. Add to the mix an engaging storyline equal to any home console game and, for pre order gamers, the original Kid Icarus game and you got yourself a deal and a half. This game was the reason so many people wanted the 3DS in the first place; now that it’s only a few months a way it would be foolish to miss out on it now.

WTF/FTW – Fighting game trailers

Wow people, just wow. 2012 is turning into the year of WTF because not only do I have one awesomely strange trailer to show, but two. The first one is a reveal of Street Fighter X (cross) Tekken exclusive PlayStation characters like Cole from inFamious and the Japanese Sony mascots Toro and Kuro. The also revealed Mega Man and Pac-man as characters as well, giving Pac-man a Mokujin bot to control and Mega Man… Well just watch, all your say is WTF/FTW.

Now this next trailer (or whatever) is actual footage of a fan game called Dong Dong Never Die from 2009. Using sound effects from other fighting game and taking over 10,000 still shot photos; DDND is a wacky, nonsensical, freeware game that put lot of other fan base mugen fighters to shame. The game characters’ range from smoking gangsters (I assume) to Mario himself and they throw down with fighting styles so odd ball you can’t help but be impressed with the people who made this game even more. Just watch the video, a WTF/FTW moment if I ever saw one.

What Santa brought me (Mini Game Review) – Star Wars: The Old Republic

We have come to the end my friends, the last gift I’ll feature here (somewhat). Oh sure I got plenty more things from Santa and various others, but they’re decidedly less cool than what I’ve shown already. Does anyone really want me to review socks my mom gave me? No, I didn’t think so. So on that note – Star Wars: The Old Republic. Yeah, since I already reviewed it, there’s no reason to have a Mini Game Review; that would be completely pointless.  So click on the link here (in case you missed the review the first time) to see what I thought of the game (hint: It’s good). So thanks again for reading these following segments, hopefully these synopsizes not only entertained but made you want to buy something cool and awesome – or at least put them in your Christmas list for this year.

What Santa brought me (Mini Game Review) – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

So yeah, I got Skyrim (natch), and, well, what can I say that you people don’t already know? You know it’s a great game, you know about the whole ‘arrow to the knee’ thing, and you know that DLC is a foregone conclusion. So I’m not going to draw this out, I’m just going to give out the Platinum Pass of Perfection for Skyrim and get back to playing the game.  Because even stopping to play Skyrim for five minutes is way, way, too long.

Games & Gear of 2012 – Transformers: Fall of Cybertron

More than meets the eye, they’re robots in disguise: Transformers – and they are awesome. Seriously they’re done it all: cartoons, TV, movies, toys, and of course video games. Now I’ve played my fair share of Transformer games but one of my favorites has to be War of Cybertron. It chronicle’s the end of the Cybertron civil war where the Autobots and Decepticons have doomed their planet and, at the end of the game, seek to escape it. Transformers: Fall of Cybertron continues that story; as well as fix some of the problems of the first game (mostly multiplayer). The story is still a mystery but it will have a darker tone to it (even more so), and Grimlock will make his debut there. If you don’t think that’s a big deal then check it: Grimlock is the Hulk of the Transformers – he’s incredibly strong, can take anything thrown at him, and despite the way he talks he’s not stupid. Grimlock can tear through an entire platoon of enemies without breaking a sweat (I know robots don’t sweat, its just a figure of speech) and can even challenge Optimus Prime and Megatron outright and possibly win. That’s why the inclusion of Grimlock is so epic and the fact we get to play as him is even better. We may have to wait until the end of the year for this game– but we all know its worth it.

And people that’s about it for the Game & Gear list of 2012, only because the games I didn’t include don’t have definite release dates for them. Rest assure though, once they do I’ll post them, till then stay tuned.

This just in (Or not) – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012

Alright people, say what you will about the 80’s they have the ability to come back at ya. It might not be hairstyles, clothes or music; but sooner to later you’ll see it in games or cartoons. And what cartoon (something that could be the face of the 80’s itself) is coming back in a few months this year? The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of course. The same, yet always different from each incarnation, TMNT is about four teenage mutant ninja turtles who live in the sewers of New York City; fighting against renegade ninja, savage mutates, and alien invaders from dimension X. Corny to intense the turtles were never boring and now its Nickelodeon’s turn at bat. Now people are already crying fowl that they won’t stay true to turtle power, but don’t sell them short yet, they did come out with the Last Airbender and their new show Kung Fu Panda is awesome (don’t pretend you don’t watch it) so nick can very well pull it off. We won’t know anything until the end of March.
