Trailer-Rama Week: Anchorman 2 – The Legend Continues

And it’s about time people! Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was a laugh out loud comedy about a newscaster who was like a deity among men, but the times were changing and not in his favor. At the end he learned a lot about himself and that journalism wasn’t (well mostly) about having good hair or fame but bringing the news to all. That movie was in 2004 and deserved a sequel two years later and not almost ten years later. Well… If there’s one thing I’ve learned on my short time on Earth so far, is that it’s never too late for a sequel.  I’m glad it’s a movie I like too in this case, so on December 20 get your rear and gear, comb your sweet stache, and jump in the family pacer to go see a great movie. After nine year, I won’t accept anything less.

Trailer-Rama Week: Jack Ryan – Shadow Recruit

This is an interesting movie, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, because this movie is actually part of a series –sort of. The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Sum of All Fears and now this movie have two things in common: the writer Tom Clancy and the main character Jack Ryan. The continuity is not cannon between the movies, some of these are reboots, and Shadow Recruit will be the latest one. I can’t tell the future but I can learn from the past; the four films prior are movie successes, critical acclaimed, and was casted by acting legends. So if the pedigree holds true, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit will be the latest film masterwork from a now legendary writer.  It releases on January 17, 2014.

Trailer-Rama Week: 47 Ronin

Samurai, monsters, epic quests, an evil empire, revenge, and Keanu Reeves (whoa, he knows Bushidō). It’s going to be a party December 25 and for once not just of Christmas.

Trailer-Rama Week: Out of the Furnace

Now we here at the Armada have our disagreements with one Christian Bale for his role of Batman, not that it was bad but it left a lot to be desired. However that being said, there is no doubt he can act, and Out of the Furnace will be his latest film to that fact. Bale takes on the role of the low-income worker who wanted a better life for himself and his younger brother. However all they found was bad luck, the younger brother especially since he ends up missing and all hands point a particular deranged crime boss. With allies few and hope lesser by the day; Bale’s character will take matters in his own hands, find his brother and settle up with the crime boss – if he can. This drama looks like it can win every award under the sun, rightfully so, but in all honestly the main reason this movie will rock all others is because it will have the One, True, Omnigamer in it!  That’s right; I will be the guess star in this gritty film noir…Well background extra… in one screen… But still, I’m in it! Check me out (if I didn’t end up on the cutting room floor) on December 6, trust me as long as we keep him away from any capes and cowls the movie well be fine.

Game Review: Zombie High Volume 3

ZHV3

Halloween may have come and gone people, but the Zombies stay all year around in the world of Zombie High and guess what? Volume 3 is ready for your reading pleasure.

*Spoilers*

When we last left our crew they just survived the best & worst day of their lives: living the dream of being rock stars and enjoying the good life in Alpha Sector. However it doesn’t last as they come to find out that there is a new breed of Zombie out there; Smart, strong, knows how to talk and of course completely evil. What’s more, they want to turn what’s left of the human race into their own personal all you can eat salad bar and have an unknown plot to do it. Their numbers are hidden among normal humans and even the main character’s parents are suspect, can Jane Valentine uncover the HFVM plans and busts some un Ds heads? Only your skill will decided that.

*End Spoilers*

Zombie High Volume 3 is another well done ‘choose your own adventure’ book (CYOA) for the smart phones that been showing up lately, which I couldn’t be more pleased. The series has same excellent writing and storytelling that I expect from the people that made Wizard’s Choice. Volume 3 changes the formula bit however by removing the ‘bullet’ counter from gameplay, and focused on more the narrative. So in combat you don’t have any special weapons to use, instead players must select the best choice that is the most effective without causing any backlash – if possible. It’s tempting to use opal all the time in combat, but doing so in the wrong situation, might make things worse. While I do miss putting all my bullets I’ve saved into a sweet killing machine that is the bane of all Zombies everywhere, the change is not really bad. If you watch what’s said prior to the choices and reason the situations you’re in you can often find a solution that won’t have your face eaten. Of course social life in high school is just as dangerous as any zombie threat, and you must balance your status as ‘A Kid’ with your mission to stop the HFVM – I’ll be surprised how both will be hand in hand in Vol. 3. What else can I say but I’ve enjoyed another read here; the removal of special weapons and attacks via the bullet system is missed, but the story or is the challenge hurt by this decision.  After finishing this one, I can’t wait to see what happens next – the mark of good fiction.

Trailer-Rama Week: Thor – The Dark World

That’s right; Trailer-Rama week is back! Let’s end 2013 with some awesome movies, since the awesome games are already out or delayed. For the first trailer we got, its back to Asgard with Thor: The Dark World. Thor Odinson has been a very busy Norse god (Demi-God?), after helping saving the earth with the Avengers and bringing his trouble-maker brother, Loki, into justice – he’s spends his time cleaning up the cosmic mess. Unfortunately things won’t be going back to normal soon as an ancient enemy of darkness has returned and not even Odin can do anything about it. So now in order to save the day Thor must take a journey that will tax the very fiber of his being and bring everything he loves into harms way. I can’t wait. November 8 people, less than a week, reserve your seats.
