Min Game Review – Avengers Alliance (for the Windows Phone)

Avengers Alliance is a game that, at first, I thought was rip off. I mean it’s a Flash Facebook game that’s a watered down version of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. You can only play it little bit at a time and they want money to get characters faster – forget that! However True Backlash started playing (and wouldn’t shut up about it) so I decided to give it a try as well. As it turns out I was right & wrong about the game: right on how it is a cash grab from Marvel fans but wrong because the game is pretty fun even if you don’t pay money. It sets up the player as a new agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. when all of hades goes down you get thrown into the field to find out why. Fortunately in addition to items and weapons only you can use (you have to buy, win or research the best ones) you also can recruit the most powerful heroes (and some villains) in the Marvel universe to fight on your squad in this turn-based tactical RPG. Now this game been out for two years on Facebook but only recently made available as a Windows Phone game. Sadly as much as I would love to give it a glowing review this version of the game is rife with lag, slow input commands, and crashes. It laughable compared to the flash version and that’s just a shame since WPs don’t have a lot of good games to begin with. Hopefully Playdom will patch the heck of out this so it can entertain the mobile masses with Avengers Alliance in the nearby future, but for now I’ll just stick with PC verison

This Just In (Or Not) – Community meets G.I. Joe

The quirky yet very awesome show Community has done many excellent parodies in its time so far: Call of Duty, alternative realities, 8-bit video games, Dungeons & Dragons, and even Anime (although the actual Anime parts were few a far between). Today they are going for the Holy Grale of pop culture – 80’s cartoons. I don’t know how, and really don’t care but the study group (I know they’re the student council or whatever now, but I’ll always know them as the study group) are becoming one off characters of everybody’s favorite paramilitary group G.I. Joe. People this episode will be ripe with tropes, gags, classic animation and maybe yelling “Yo Joe!” once – I can’t wait. For now though here’s a little something to tide us over, a PSA, another G.I. Joe mainstay that they were known for. Don’t forget though watch Community today at 8pm EST or you’ll miss all the fun.
