Armada’s E3 picks: Sea of Thieves (TBA)

Rare Replay is one thing, but revealing a whole new massive multiplayer online game after almost seven years in creative exile is quite another thing. Rare’s comeback title (hopefully), Sea of Thieves, will put players in the roles of pirates scouring the seas for treasure and adventures – all online with other players. Now the pirate MMO isn’t a new concept but the Sea of Thieves have some differences from the pack. Such as being a free-to-start title, a game available for both PC and Console (Xbox One), being a 1st person MMO, working together with other players as a crew on a ship, and some of the most colorful art outside of Nintendo I’ve seen. Now of course there not must else about this game so far, and it’s been a while since Rare made something that wasn’t a Wii Sports one off, but I’m an optimist and their trailer was good so I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. However we probably won’t see any Sea of Thieves news for some time in the future.

Armada’s E3 picks: Star Wars – Knights of the Fallen Empire (10/27/15)

Now we’re talking! As a lifelong swtor fan this is always a pleasant sight, especially in E3, a new DLC for the best MMO on the market. However with the Knight of the Fallen Empire it be different: as the Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire raged on a new force enters the conflict – Eternal Empire. Not spoiling the story for players not up to the point (like me sadly – I’m working on it) but basically the imps and pubs got 0wned. Five years later Eternal Empire is now in charge and the only hope the galaxy has now is you. As this DLC starts you waken out of carbonite to find everything changed; you’re allies, your resources, even your name have been taken from you. Now known as the ‘Outlander’ you must survive in a galaxy where chaos and the Dark side truly reigns. That my friends is only the beginning; BioWare (the masters of video game storytelling) promises not only our choices will have impact on outcomes throughout the Fallen Empire arc, and you can recruit (or betray) new and old allies, but you can determine the fate of both the Sith Empire and Galactic Republic within the expansion. I’ve played a lot of BioWare games people and even though they weren’t perfect, never once did they disappoint me, and I expect no different from Fallen. It might be their version of WoW Catasyism but I know like swtor they’ll manage to outdo them again with their titanic DLC. If you like MMOs or Star Wars please download & play this free-to-start masterpiece, then when kotfe (cof-fe?) drops this October you’ll be ready. Or wait and just start a level 60 character from the get-go, whatever works, just don’t miss out.

Armada’s E3 picks: Street Fighter V (2016)

Come on. Really? Do I really have to say anything about Street Fighter? Really? No? Good. Also more fighters join the fray!

Armada’s E3 picks: For Honor. (TBA)

Ladies and gentlemen we have become spoiled in our combat in recent times. Killstreaks, Nanotech suit abilities, paint based special weapons – even automatic firearms make taking out opponent’s a snap no matter the skill level. In For Honor all those things don’t exist. To win a fight you need strength, cunning, and a melee weapon. Choose between three factions of the world’s most brutal martial warriors: The Legions (Knights), The Warborn (Vikings), and The Chosen (Samurai) each with their own fighting style, armors, and weapons. From there you attack or defend and meet your enemies on the field of battle. Using the game’s ‘Art of Battle’ system, your strikes and defenses with be critical against other players. If your attacks are effective then the opponent(s) will weaken and be less effective in battle, however if they can properly defend against your attacks then they’ll be able to strike back hard. With what seems like 4 vs 4 games, with and emphasis of true skillful play, For Honor will be the next pro game for pro players whenever it decides to come out.

Armada’s E3 picks: South Park –The Fractured, but whole. (2016)

South Park –The Fractured, but whole. Like Deus Ex – Mankind Divided, this game is a sequel out of nowhere, but it is totally welcome sight to see. After the whole Stick of Truth fiasco the four boys decided to shift their focus from wizards & warriors to the much more popular form of play: superheroes. And of course you’re going along for the ride as the new superhero kid (whether or not you’ll still be called douchebag is unknown). Their 2014 game was a masterwork of good old fashion turn based RPGing, so this upcoming 2016 title will do the same I’m sure. Though the name ‘The Fractured, but whole’ is classic South Park in its Sophomoric word play; but it also tells me in a clever way (again classic South Park) that the sequel will be ‘the new kid’s’ origin story. Which I would love to find out more about my avatar and how he got those gastronomic intestinal powers. I could be wrong but we’ll all find out next year.

Armada’s E3 picks: Mario & Luigi – Paper Jam (2016)

World collide as the Mario & Luigi universe plus the Paper Mario universe meet for the first time. See Bowser, no matter what reality, is always causing trouble; when his paper counterpart makes it into the 3D world they team up to do something they could never do on their own: defeat Mario. The Bowsers plan has one fatal flaw: the Marios (and Luigi) teaming up as well to take them down. Between Paper Mario’s paper craft and M&L dual techs they can meet any challenge, solve any puzzle, and save their combine kingdoms one more. I’ve play all the Mario & Luigi games sent Super Star Saga so hear me when I say they worth the buy for your New Nintendo 3DS – a shame we got to wait til next year for it.

Armada’s E3 picks: Rare Replay (08/04/2015)

Hey everyone, remember when good games were Rare. Where a bird and a bear worked together to stop an evil witch from stealing your sister’s youth; or when three muscled bound, human-like Battletoads would pound the spit out of the forces of darkness with shapeshifting abilities, weapons, and awesomeness. Heck if a truck full of nuclear warheads was out of control and the only way to save the world is to destroy buildings in the way using demolition mechs then that’s a Rare game indeed. Both an excellent play on words and the name of a British video game developer; Rare has some of the most interesting, challenging, and inventive games on the market for many years. Sadly nothing good last forever and Rare’s twist of fate has all but erased them from the current game market. However at this year’s E3 Rare seems to have made a return with two titles for the future: Rare Replay and Sea of Thieves (more on this on a latter post). Rare Replay is a collection of Rare’s 30 greatest/most popular games on one disk, so people can relive the glory days of Rare’s past or experience them for the first time. I myself have only played a handful of Rare games in my lifetime; so by picking up Rare Replay not only can I see if I still got it with the games I use to play but I can finally try the ones I missed as well (we’ll see if Perfect Dark is worth people yelling in my face about it). As for you all, if you got an Xbox One and like deals on good games then Rare Replay is an auto play this August.

Armada’s E3 picks: Cuphead in “Don’t Deal with the Devil” (2016)

So back in February I put Cuphead “in Don’t Deal with the Devil” as our Games of 2015, unfortunately that was a little premature as during this year’s E3 the release date for Cuphead was pushed back to 2016. What the heck Studio MDHR! I want to play as an cup/mug headed hero (?) that is basically a puppet of the devil to take down the most vilest, no good, dirty, rotten, scumbag that the cartoon 1930’s can throw at me. Also I want to take Backlash with me and co-op the game and take down this colorful cutthroats as a team. And speaking of color, I want to enjoy the awesomely frantic and vibrant world that you guy created. Man I want to play it right now! *sigh* Ok, Studio MDHR you get one more pass this year, but if you make me wait one more time for Cuphead then I’ll break all my cups/mugs in protest – yes all of them.

Armada’s E3 picks: Final Fantasy VII Remake (TBA)

The announcement that won E3 for Sony. It may never come out in our lifetime, but watching that trailer was enough to give me hope.
