Game Preview – Deadpool

Well fokes Comic Con came and when without a hitch this year: celebrities ranging from movie stars to wrestlers were in attendance, the biggest names in comics showed off their latest and future products, cosplayers of every size and shape came out in droves, and of course they showed video games at the event. Now most games shown here already premiered at E3 and very little info was given now. However that didn’t stop Deadpool, famed 4th wall breaking mercenary, from interrupting Marvel’s game panel and showcased (or rather showed-off) his upcoming game. The trailer for the game was crazy, confusing, and violent (much like the character himself) and I can’t wait to play it. FYI the kitty and rainbow censors may actually make it into the game as well – following Meet the Pyro lead I’m sure.

Armada’s Game coverage from the San Diego Comic Con – Part 2

People our time has finally come, the wait is nearly over. Yesterday, like a glorious symphony, the people at BioWare announced the purchase of pre-order packages for the long awaited MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic. This means ladies and gentleman that a release date will soon follow, I can’t wait… Now the packages are available to purchase right now in various video game providers in store and online; they come three awesome flavors –

Standard Edition: Which is just your game saved at launch, better safe than sorry right? It also comes with a Color Stone which changes the color of your weapon’s fire and saber blade.

Digital Deluxe Edition: Now this one’s only available via Origin, and is a direct to download deal (say ‘direct to download deal’ three times fast). You get everything the Standard has plus a few toys for your in-game character to play with:

  • Flare Gun: Fire a dramatic and inspiring flare high into the air.
  • Training Droid: A small but advanced training droid to hover at your side for combat assistance.
  • Holo Dancer: Portable entertainment system to project your own holographic dancer.
  • Holo Cam: Keep visual records of your in-game adventures as you travel the Star Wars galaxy.
  • STAP: The STAP is a sleek and unique in-game vehicle you will acquire during your journeys

Collector’s Edition: Here’s the big daddy right here, it has it all; not only more in-game gear but some real life tchotchkes for the hard core swtor fans. It’s already sold out in some places, but never say never and these are the things you can get as a reward:

  • Exclusive Gentle Giant Darth Malgus statue
  • Game disks collectible metal case
  • The Journal of Master Gnost-Dural as annotated by Satele Shan
  • The Old Republic galaxy map
  • Custom Security Authentication Key
  • Music of Star Wars: The Old Republic CD
  • High-quality Collector’s Edition box

  • Exclusive Mouse Droid: A little Mouse Droid to join your adventures.
  • Exclusive Collector’s Edition Store: Unique in-game vendor with a dynamic assortment of items available only to purchasers of the Collector’s Edition.

Now I’m already sure everyone and their mama already got five pre orders in, but for those who haven’t – do so NOW! Trust me, when the insane nerd posse returns from comic con, there won’t be copy left til launch day.

Now on the more spandex side of things the action MMO DC Universe will be releasing its very first DLC ‘Fight for the Light’. It stars the Green Lantern and his arch nemeses Sinestro, giving both heroes and villains adventures (or crimes) to undertake. Of course players don’t watch epicness but join in, by joining either the Lantern Corp or the Sinestro Corp. Once they do they gain access to the new seventh power set: Light Powers. Say what you will about the Green Lantern movie, but the powers were teflon cool, the same powers players can now weld once the DLC goes live. I’ll admit I don’t play this MMO, I’m saving myself for swtor, but this DLC has peaked my interest… Nyaaaaa, I’m wait unit they give me a seven day free trial like Rift.

Armada’s Fighting Game coverage from the San Diego Comic Con

Hi, there True BackLash, back again. Man oh man, for a convention dedication to comic books and media related to comic books, the amount video game coverage at this year’s San Diego Comic Con is staggering. If I talked about it all, then Bronze would have nothing for him to cover and that would be just inconsiderate. Besides looking at some the coverage of the fighting games alone is more than enough to wet my appetite. Today, we take a look at the latest DLC character announcement for Mortal Kombat (9), preview a the latest installment in the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise as well as the highly anticipated Street Fighter X Tekken and reveal a once thought dead fighting game series that is hinted at resurrection.

Well enough with the banter, let’s get to it.

Mortal Kombat: Freddy Kruger announced a secret 4th DLC character

Seriously, this is no joke, the mass murdering, dream invading demon from the Nightmare on Elm Street film series is the final character of four added to Mortal Kombat (for those not keeping track, MK vets Rain and Kenshi as well as new Shao Khan minion, Skarlet, were the other three). While I have mixed feelings about his inclusion for various reasons, he’ll be right at home in the game. Kruger will be available to download for the PS3 and XBox 360 versions of the game on August 9th, 2011.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3: 1 new game + 12 new characters = forty more dollars (American)

Well just like Capcom replaced Street Fighter IV with Super Street Fighter IV instead of making DLC for the former, Capcom does it again replacing Marvel vs. Capcom 3:Fate of Two Worlds with Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. On the bad side MvC3 classic becomes a tacky coaster, unless you can trade it in for credit at a video gaming store. Along with that that’s $40 extra needed to get the new characters and features. Eh, what can you do? The characters introduced for this recent installment are Strider Hiryu, Firebrand, Frank West, Phoenix Wright, Vergil, and Nemesis from the Capcom side and Iron Fist, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, Nova, Dr. Strange and Rocket Raccoon from the Marvel side. Game’s set to drop November 15th, 2011.

Street Fighter X Tekken: A New Era of Combat is Here

A 2D game with crazy ki attacks vs a 3D game with attacks closer to real life? Hmmm, why didn’t I think of it? Anyway, Bronze did a piece on this game already, Characters introduced before SDCC were Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Cammy, Guile, Abel and Sagat from Street Fighter and Kazuya, Nina, Hwoarang, Marduk, King, Bob, and Julia from Tekken. Bronze also reported that Cole McGrath PS3 and PS Vita exclusive. Announced at SDCC were Street Fighter’s Dhalsim and Final Fight’s/Street Fighter’s Poison and Tekken’s Yoshimitsu and Steve Fox. It’s also implied that other Final Fighters Hugo, Cody, Guy and possibly Haggar will make it into the game as well. The game hits the shelves, March 2012.

Darkstalkers: IT’S ALIVE!!!!

For those who have waited for over 10 years for a proper sequel, it’s looks like it’s now time. Street Fighter producer, Yoshinori Ono stated that the Darkstalkers series is not dead during the Street Fighter X Tekken panel. G4TV.com takes it a step further and says that a game is being worked on. This is so nuts, I hope we see some progress soon. For the occasion I have the ending theme song for both the Darkstalkers anime and american cartoon series Trouble Man. Have a listen and enjoy.

Well that’s all I got folks, til’ next time, this is TBL saying take care, and get thumbs ready for combat.
