Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Little Mac)

little Mac

He could’ve been a champ, he could’ve been a contender! Well technically he was a contender & a champ but only with the aid of a player’s skills. Little Mac, despite his small size, had one mean Star Punch that could send even Mike Tyson into Dreamland. Thanks to the 2009 remake Little Mac is making a comeback, and he even got invited to greatest fight tournament in history (sorry Budokai Tenkaichi). A boxer for a costume make seem a little unimpressive, but like Little Mac himself proved: it ain’t size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog. Meaning a costume is only as good as person wearing it; show some razzle-dazzle, some quick foot work, charge that super meter, and if all else fails pull out the pink track suit – the ladies luv the track suit.

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Meta Knight)

Meta Knight

There he is, the original bad boy of Dream Land – Meta Knight! He’s a mystery, wrapped in a enigma, stuffed in a nesting doll, you never know what his motivations are. Sometimes he’s trying to save dream land, other times he’ll try to conquer it, on one hand he’ll defend a sacred piece of the Star Rod to keep ultimate evil from returning, other times he uses phenomenal cosmic powers to awaken the strongest warrior in the galaxy – just to fight it. Meta Knight is definitely his own man. Sadly his actual skills in Smash are hit or miss, but hey maybe I couldn’t handle the awesome powers of the Meta Knight. As for him as a costume it’s pretty simple; other than a spiky sword (its name Galaxia in semi-canon) and a cape (wings are optional) the only key item you need is a mask over your face. Since Meta Knight is mostly face, similar to Kirby, what else you wear is completely up to you. Now I know that is almost like Vega, but when you show them Galaxia they’ll quickly get the point (Get it? Because Vega doesn’t use a sword and a sword is pretty pointy in general – you get it).

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Marth)

Marth

Look people I know Marth is a legacy character in the Smash series, and the hero-king of Altea in Fire Emblem, and his overall martial skills are amazing – but to this very day he looks like a freaken girl. If he was a girl then there wouldn’t be a problem, but he’s a dude and that’s just confusing. Most people would blame the anime style of Marth, but for me it’s the stupid hair clip (or is it a hair circlet). Even Saki looks more manly than Marth ever does. I’m sorry people, this is just my pet peeve; some people don’t like one shoulder guard on characters, I don’t like that hair thing on Marth. Anyway dressing up like Marth is EZ; most of the stuff you can buy a Wal-Mart, including the blue wig, and since Marth looks pretty much gender neutral any gender can go as him. Just don’t fem it up too much ladies otherwise people will confuse you with Lucina, unless that’s what you were going for, then never mind.

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Sheik)

sheik

Now Sheik here is the alter-ago of Zelda, yes the Legend of Zelda Zelda, in the Ocarina of Time adventure. Now before you all ask too many questions; remember Zelda is skilled in magic so an ilisonary disguise like Sheik is possible. This Hyrulian ninja is also more than a disguise as it has enhance agility, throwing weapons (and traps), and a magical harp that causes various effects. Of course Sheik was in Smash as well, but this is the first time that Sheik was a stand alone character. Now Sheik can be a man or a woman because of many different variables, just remember the color scheme or people will think you’re an everyday average ninja. Oh, also remember the harp too, that will help – and if you don’t see how a magical harp, from a magical ninja, who’s really a princess that reincarnates every so generation to fight evil; doesn’t help with your costume choice this Halloween then you’re on the wrong site my friend.

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Zelda)

Zelda

Zelda, of the ‘Legend of Zelda’ fame. She has a great deal in common with Peach: they’re a princesses, they have a  great deal of magical power (on the part of Zelda it comes from the Triforce of wisdom), evil forces are always after them, and sadly they end up captured more times than not. However they also fight in Smashes so they’re very capable if it comes to it (and before you even ask here’s what happens when Princess Peach & Zelda go at it in DEATHBATTLE). Ladies, you can even use similar costume techniques from Peach for Zelda, however to set apart the princesses a few changes must be employed for future Zeldas. Instead of pink use light purple & white in the color scheme, put a few Triforce symbols on your clothing somewhere, and most importantly the trademark Hyrulian ears are a must. Now if you don’t know or how to make Hyrulian ears; just get elven ears from any costume shoppe, they’re an inferior type of earlobe but most won’t be able to tell the difference.

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Bowser)

BowsersAs one of the first video game villains ever Bowser is a lock for a costume choice for Halloween, after all Halloween belongs to the villains. Dracula, the Mummy, Frankenstein (or Frankenstein’s Monster), etc; and even though Bowser’s actual threat varies from game to game to don’t want to mess with the King of Koopas period. Now as daunting as it seems to dress like Bowser it’s  really not that bad. Get a green trash bag, put some Dixie cups on the back of it and BAM – instant shell! Find a devil’s mask, paint it green and tan in the right places and there’s your Bowser face – and you’re done, EZ! Now if you more create types can make your own Bowser getup, then great, you’re be sure to scare the plumber out of people this year. However being dressed like Bowser doesn’t give you the right to kidnap women in pink, no means no.

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Princess Peach)

peach

The eternal princess of the mushroom kingdom – Peach. Don’t let all the pink fool you she’s quite the force. In addition to all that royal magic she wields; she’s also quite the athlete taking part in racing, sports, world spanning board games and can even throwdowns like Smash. Peach even saved the Mario Bros on occasion; yes it’s a special kind of lady to take care of business while looking this good. Now you gamer girls I’m not saying you have to find, and or, wear the most expensive dress you can find, doesn’t even have to be a dress but has to be pink otherwise you wearing a crown wouldn’t make sense.

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Captain Falcon)

Capt

FALCON PUNCH! Do I need to say more? No I don’t, be the one and only Captain Falcon this year!

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Luigi)

Luigi

You know him, you love him, there was a whole year dedicated to the man: its Luigi. The other half of the Mario Brothers has been doing well stepping out of his brother’s shadow – busting ghosts, racing karts, and throwing down in smash tournaments. As a symbol for sidekick empowerment video games wide Luigi costumes would not only be easy (just do Mario in a green shirt) but show how progressive you are by giving gaming 1st sidekick some love at your Halloween get together. Even better play along with the scarier dressed people as we all know Luigi doesn’t have the strongest backbone and that will tie in to the Luigi experience. Finally, end the night with the green missile because that’s always a crowd favorite – although I wouldn’t ask a lady ‘Do you want to see my green missile?’ because that could be interpreted  the wrong way.

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Pikachu)

Pika

Pokemon – Gotta to check them all. Pikachu, hands down the most popular Pokemon of them all (although I’m more of a Mew man myself). Costumes for this little guy is easy, in fact it might be an over-saturation of Pikachus this year. The small electric mouse Pokemon can fit anyone: men, women, children, babies, pets – heck anything living really. You don’t even have to wear anything heavy just put on some yellow make-up on your face and orange dots on your cheeks and -BAM- instance Pikachu. The only down side in going as Pikachu is would-be trainers always trying to catch you, and if you tell them your not a Pokemon they’ll try to catch you even more because they’ll believe you’re a rare talking Pokemon now. Oh well going as the perfectly popular Pokemon Pikachu for one day is worth the risk of being a 10 year old’s pit fighting slaves forever, or is that just me.
