Games and Gear (of E3 2017): Star Wars Battlefront II

Now with E3 done for another year, it’s time to sift through the show games and separate the crap from the awesome – this is Games and Gear of E3 2017! Let’s start with a softball: Star Wars Battlefront II

Sweet Christmas Gift Guide – Star Wars Battlefront

Star Wars – The Force Awakens was amazing, and everyone knows it! But sadly now the adventure is over and we have to go back to our daily lives – or we? Thanks the power of Star Wars Battlefront we can join the conflict between the determined rebels and the brutal Empire. SWB is the most impressive looking game of the series by far, I swear some moments feel like I just got dropped into Hoth right then and there. And facing down a AT-ST (pronounced -“at~sssssit”) is downright intimidating with these now visuals. Now most battles do take place on the original movies (ep 4, 5, & 6) but owning this title also allows you to fight a battle on Jakku, that’s right, the same planet where the newest movie starts. Players have the added pleasure of knowing their battle helps with the newest Star Wars lore. I would say buy this game for all lovers of Star Wars, but that everyone these days so let the force guide you on this one.

Sweet Christmas Gift Guide: Battlefield – Hardline

Again, I’ll say it: the Battlefield series is not my favorite. However Battlefield – Hardline is just different and dynamic enough to break the cycle of boredom the other games in the series are stuck in (in my opinion). Players are either cops or robbers; robbers are trying to commit crimes like stealing money or hijacking cars while the cops are trying to stop them. With large maps and squads of players (on both sides) every goal and objective in play will always be in a frantic tug of war (but in a good way) by the two sides until a winner is decided. Each player can configure their class load out to their play style and can unlock further weapons over time. None of this is really new or different to the series, but Hardline does it so well because it focuses on a more urban premise for the game. Rather than another generic faceless military engagement the other games are ‘famous’ for. Plus the single player is modeled after an not quite serious-serious cop drama, not quite ‘Bad Company’ but at least a step in the right direction.

Armada’s E3 picks: Star Wars – Battlefront 3 (11/17/15)

Now I played this series and can see what the hub-bub is, by far the only good Battlefield game in existence (even though it’s technically Battlefront here).

Games & Gear of 2015 : Star Wars – Battlefront

Star Wars: Battlefront, also known as the good Battlefield game, is finally making the 3rd sequel everyone (including me) was waiting for. I still remember the joy I had leading the Confederacy of Independent Systems against the mutant clone army. My weapon of choice Droideka, of course; speed, suppressive fire power, portable shield, intimidation – the perfect class in my opinion. Sadly the droids lost that war in the prequels and gave rise to the more famous ‘Star Wars’ of the Rebels vs the Empire. And while those factions didn’t have the Droideka; they all had vehicles, turrets, and even ‘hero classes’ to use on the battlefield. It was a hoot and a half! Now with the new Force Awakens movie coming soon; this game will be perfectly timed to the Star Wars madness that’s soon to follow. The release date could be as early  as April or as late as this winter holiday, either way get ready to wage war in a galaxy far far this year.

Games & Gear of 2015: Battlefield: Hardline (03/17/15)

Well I already covered a lot about this game in my Beta Breakdown (if you missed it here you go), and after play with it for days it is truly a Battlefield game – warts n’ all. However the element of a small scale (figuratively – the maps are still pretty big) conflict between a crime syndicate and local law enforcement not only kept bring me back to a demo but trying new classes, tactics, and load outs despite my dislike for the Battlefield series as a whole. Now I don’t know if I’m going to keep the game over time, but I will buy it – and that’s why I’m putting the game on the list.
