VGA Quickie: Fallout 4 (2016)

Now it seems like overkill for a radroach, but it was a legendary radroach, so I’m justified.

This just in (Or not): Fallout 4’s first DLC – Automatron

Come on now, I know I wasn’t the only one disappointed that Codsworth was our robot companion in Fallout 4. I mean he’s cool for giving me water, but his combat abilities in the wasteland are garbage compared to even the rustiest Protectron. Well thanks to the Automatron DLC we can have the death machine of our dreams!

Mini Game Review: Fallout 4

fallout_4.001

Alright people I’m going to keep this short because, surprise, Fallout 4 is great and I want to keep playing. The start of the game begins 200 years ago were you (average Joe or Jane) are enjoying a life of peace with family, unfortunately that peace is shattered when the nuclear bombs fell and the great war began. Only by sheer ‘luck’ did you and your family make it into Vault 111 before one of those bombs hit your neighborhood; however whatever luck you had in getting there ran out soon after. Now, through the story, you are the sole survivor of Vault 111 and the world has changed far more than you could possibly imagine – this is Fallout 4. From there the Commonwealth is your oyster: you can continue the main story, or you can explore the devastated wasteland to see what trouble you can get into yourself, how about rebuilding? In a first for the series you can found and grow your own settlements. Make sure plant crops and provide fresh water and the people will come. Of course to deter raiders, super mutants, and the like; set up defenses and turrets – you haven’t lived until you see a rocket launching turret at work. Or not – you can just go around selling your skills to different factions and people for rewards, allies, and more.

I’ll say it again: Fallout 4 is great, game of the year no question. It has flaws (random glitches, character clipping, dialog hic-ups) and I wouldn’t say Fallout 4’s story is the most groundbreaking either, but all Fallouts since 3 were amusingly glitchy and don’t do anything to cause the player any grief. Any other problems found in this game are nitpicks, plain and simple. Buy this game now and become the sole survivor you want to be.

Game Preview – Fallout 4 perks

fallout_4.001

People can you fell it! Just one more day before Fallout 4 is out. At first I could wait, but now if I wait anymore I’m going to explode like if someone with the bloody mess perk shot me. How do I know that particular perk will be in the game? I didn’t until a few days ago when the tech times website reported someone got their hands on all the perks listed in the upcoming game. Yes just one segment of a battery of Fallout 4 fallout of information people were able to acquire through less than legit means. While I myself had the willpower not to look at anything so far, for the perks I gladly took a peak. If nothing else it will get me ready for the game tomorrow, and if you guys want to see behind the curtain as well just click here. They say it contain spoilers in the perks lists – but not really.

The Fall of Games: Fallout 4 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Video Series – Luck

As we come to the end of the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. video series we take a look at the most other worldly stat in Fallout: Luck. Now you people may not be superstitious in real life, but in the wasteland you’ll need all the help you can get and being lucky where it counts will save you. Think about it; an invisible hand helping you making better shots, find better loot, making the impossible possible. And since this is Fallout you can run with it with wild and crazy elements including fan fav Mysterious Stranger.  Sadly no matter how high you put luck it doesn’t break the game in your favor; you’ll still die, get crap gear, and say the wrong thing to the wrong bandit lord from time to time. However if you hate life and want a  hardcore run of Fallout 4 then by all mean reduce luck to 1.  You’ll be beating of the yao guai with the stick in no time – seriously because you’ll won’t be able to find any good weapons with a 1 in luck. Don’t say I didn’t warn you…

The Fall of Games: Fallout 4 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Video Series – Agility

Now we move on to the most popular stat in the Fallout series – Agility.  For good reason though as Agility is the main stat for standard firearms efficiency , dodging death blows, and stealthy sneak attacks. All good things but the main advantage to Agility is that it increases the effectiveness of V.A.T.S. or the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System. That system is what makes Fallout stand out from the rest, it allows players to target vital areas on your enemies  to cripple or disarm or (for 97% of fallout players) shoot / whack their heads off. The more agility you have the better your V.A.T.S. so it’s always a popular choice just for having cool glamour shots in Fallout. Of course you’ll be doing more than shooting things in the game (maybe, I don’t know), but if this is your first Fallout put at least 7 point into this one – you thank me later.

The Fall of Games: Fallout 4 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Video Series – Intelligence

Even though I’m a Charisma man through and through it always a good idea to focus on Intelligence as well. Think about it, in the super futuristic reality of the atomic age (before the holocaust) everything was powered by the mighty atom: robots, cars, even some of our food. Now how many of those things were made or controlled by a computer? Try all of them. Don’t you think it will be smart to at least try to turn off the laser turret shooting at you than throwing rocks at it like a super mutant? Heck you might even be able to make it fight for you instead, it’s a win-win. That being said… There’s also advantages of being stupid in the wasteland, mostly comedy, but hey it’s your call.

The Fall of Games: Fallout 4 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Video Series – Charisma

What makes a good leader? It is bravery? It is loyally? It is money? Nope – it Charisma! Yes Charisma, it’s that quality that makes you the coolest person in the room. That special (word play totally intended) something that  people can’t learn, earn, or buy – unless you talking about the Fallout series then that stuff is totally buyable which you really should. Now this is from personal experience but charisma is a far more useful stat than any combat stat in the game. With it you can influence people, get information easier, get cheaper rates from the merchants, even have your allies fight harder for you. It’s win x infinity as far as I’m concerned with it, while without it can be quite a chore getting anywhere.

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Vault Boy)

Vault Boy

Now this one is a bit of a cheat seeing as Fallout has been a thing for a while now, the iconic Vault Boy (sometimes Pip-Boy) however was never the main character of the series, just a throwback mascot. Recently however there was a game called Fallout Shelter, which gave the Vault Boy and his people(?) a chance to create a perfect vault. Because of this game the Vault Boy makes the list – not that it stopped fans of the series from dressing up like the VB anyway. All you need is a jumpsuit (blue and yellow are the official colors) and a number on the back (any number will due) and your done. However any harden vault dweller knows that the jumpsuit is a blank canvas just waiting for your artistic edge. Add shoulder pad, some bandoleers, maybe a pistol or two. How about a flight cap, some cardboard wings, and some tube socks. Put on a dog suit and make the jumpsuit for your dog, with Vault Boy it means possibly, expression, and the fact your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Take advantage of it this month, just don’t scavenge all the candy for yourself.
