Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Crackdown Run Orb)

Since we’re almost to the big scare day it’s time to make this simple for people didn’t like (or waited to late on) our previous costume choices but need something right away, right now. Crackdown is one of my favorite games, an action oriented title with a killer twist ending. However to get to that ending I needed to chase down and capture a lot of these things. They increased my agility, tested my skills as I collected them and a good time was had by all. Now you can be this helpful icon and its easy to make. Just print out this pic, tape it to some cardboard or yourself and BAM your done. It won’t be the most impressive thing ever but it will be fine for a last minute thing. Just be careful about people dressing up as Crackdown Agents, they may try to run into you to collect you if your costume is conniving enough. Just saying.

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Dog from Half Life 2)

You know people I played Half Life 1 and 2, it was a good experience and told a good enough story but I don’t have the almost zealous fervor many of the fans seem to have for this two game series (count the DLC episodes as part of HL2). While it will be a shame if the now urban legend of a sequel, Half Life 3, never comes out I wouldn’t say it will break gaming without its presence either. That being said we can keep the memory of Half Life alive with Costume choices this year. Sure you can pick Gordon Freeman or the best CPU co-op character ever Alyx, however for my choice I would recommend Dog the robotic juggernaut. One: robots are awesome (when they’re not trying to kill you), two: Dog is a bipedal, almost gorilla like robot with super strength and Zero Point Energy device that allows him to grab almost anything, and three: like his namesake he acts likes a loyal dog – short of barking (I think).   So it obvious why you should become Dog today as Half Life fan; however you’ll get bonus points for the complete set. If you’re a couple one dresses as Gordon, another like Alyx, and the pet as Dog; less points if your pet is not an actual Dog but still awesome none the less.

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Phoenix Wright)

You know lawyers are always the butt of jokes, victims of disdain, and often the first people others talk to when Johnny law comes a calling. If Phoenix Wright had a commercial then he would hit all the points. Wright is the main character in probably the world’s first lawyer simulator (and I use simulator quite loosely) where players must determent their defendant’s guilt or innocent (mostly they’re innocent) by using evidence, logic, and sometimes luck. Now even though this series does deal with the heavy elements of murder, the characters and world of Phoenix Wright is quite colorful. Robots, mascot dogs, silver samurais, rock groups, psychics, ghosts, the heart of the cards (not really), and more are part of this awesome Capcom series. So find your bluest suit, put a round gold pin on it, spike your and practice your pointing pose because….

But I wasn’t done ye-

Fine whatever…

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Pikmin)

Pikmin are an odd creatures. They’re part worms, lemmings, minions (the real ones), servebots, and plants. Multicolored and innocent looking they’re tiny dynamos when they work as a team. They’re giant slayers, master engineers, world hunger enders, and breed faster than jack rabbits. Each Pikmin type is impressive as they are resistance to the elements, can fly, can poison, use enhanced strength, and most oftenly be used as projectiles. However they are the quintessential disposable soldier and sadly without a space man to tell them what to do they would stay in the dirt all day. So this isn’t for a solo choice but rather a group effort; choose your favorite color of Pikmin and find 2 – 10 of your closest friends/family/associates and have them dress in similar fashion. If you get the full ten people (I know the Pikmin limit is 100 but I’m being realistic here) you’ll get bonus points and win the most Pikmin award (somewhere – I don’t know where). If not at least you’ll have the honor of wielding the giant flower (or leaf) on your head for a day.

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Heavy Weapons Guy a.k.a. The Heavy)

I know, I know, I’m a Team Fortress 2 fan boi and there’s like 8 heavies per neighborhood block every Halloween but ‘The Heavy’ popularity is a well-deserved. If you haven’t dressed up as him once for Halloween then do so this year, and if never played TF2 ever in life then you’re doing yourself a huge disservice. Go to steam and play the game –it’s free. Also new comic out, read that too.

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Reyna Valeria)

Reyna Valeria

Now I know Battleborn is not even open to open beta but they have revealed characters, one of which is Reyna. This choice is for the ladies who likes Han Solo, Star Lord, and dislike posers and other people not doing what you tell them to do. As the leader of the Rouge faction she comes equipped with a pistol for shooting and Command Glove for commanding. She also provides her squad with shields and target marks to protect the squad and punish enemies. Add to the fact she’s been protecting her people against the catastrophe longer than most in Battleborn so you know she earned the nickname ‘the Valkyrie’ honestly. Anyway her design is simple but stylish so it won’t be difficult to replicate however the Command Glove might be tricky. There’s a work around though: use the power glove, not quite the same but it will do – plus I love the power glove, its soooo bad~….

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Weighted Companion Cube)

It is a box, it is a toy, it is sentient, it is the key to victory, it is the ultimate sacrifice, it is your best friend, it loves you and now it is your costume choice for this Halloween. Be proud, and become the elite: the Weighted Companion Cube.

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Blizz)

Ok I know this is a bit of a cheat since we just suggested Darth Malgus not to long ago but, whatever, I like Blizz so he’s my suggestion for today. People – before the Ewoks or ball droids the Jawa was the cute, small race of Star Wars fame. Adorable robes, bright luminescent eyes, baby like language, they hit all the spots for lovely-dovely feelings. Sadly throughout Star Wars history they’re often abused because of their weak, childlike appearance – despite being masters of machinery. Now there’s Blizz, a dreamer and adventurer he wanted to make more out of life. While still a Jawa and the love of tech is strong, Blizz won’t take getting kicked a gut lying down as he’s armed with rocket launchers, blasters, flamethrowers, and other weapons of mass destruction. I love the duality of Blizz where he’s still the shortest thing walking but carries a big stick so he earns his place today (plus who wouldn’t want a Blizz plushy?). As for who would have the honor of this costume? Why babies and pets of course, who in your household would have the cuteness factor but them?

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Ghost a.k.a. Dinklebot)

You know what I’ll miss from year one Ghost (a character from Density, played by Peter Dinklage)? How he had presence, seeing how our protagonist was mostly of the silent kind, he was the voice of our adventure. Through all our triumphs to the most perilous moments, our Ghost a.k.a. Dinklebot was there to react to it all. As a function of the game he was useful, as I character he was a stalwart companion that served with distinction and had some funny lines to boot. Sadly nothing good last forever as the ‘loudest minority’ complained Peter Dinklage away and had him replaced with veteran voice actor Nolan North. Now North is excellent at what he does but he is not Ghost – a Dinklenot if you will. What was a powerful, commanding voice of the light and logic; is now a wimpy, sad, squeak that I swear is asking for a wedgey. In honor of the one, true, Ghost make your costume a Dinklebot. Your head will be the center and surround it with colored thick triangles. Now to make sure you’re the right Ghost wear a paper cutout of Peter Dinklage face on the center of the Ghost (i.e. your face) and you’re done. Dinklebot may be gone but thanks to us he’ll never be forgotten.

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Ragna the Bloodedge)

ANIME! If there’s anything crazier than video games it’s anime people, and it’s down right insanity when they combine like the BlazBlue series. This game doesn’t have a shortage of larger than life characters but the main character is probably the best the bunch: Ragna the Bloodedge. Now when you look at this guy you automatically think “Crybaby emo whose got to save / destroy the world because reasons” but actually he’s completely opposite of that sometime male anime hero trope. Instead he’s the most normal anime hero I’ve ever seen, a guy just thrown into weird anime situations and he’s doing the best to deal with it. Sure he’s got an dangerous, evil weapon infused on his body but really that not his fault. Most of the time he just wants to be left alone but he keeps meeting weirdos, people who want to kill him for money, people who want to kill him for power, people who want to kill him for science, most just want to kill him so he does his best to kill them back – with various degrees of success. Sure he’s not perfect but as stylize and powerful anime characters go he’s not bad. Plus his nickname is bloodedge and he’s got a little vampire always following him and she’s lives in various Halloween realities. So he might be over qualified as a costume choice despite his overall normal nature.
