Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Bayonetta)

Bayo

OK so this one is a little risky, and yes I wouldn’t wear this at any PTA Halloween mixer, but ladies you know you want to. I mean Bayonetta is a powerful witch that doesn’t take any mess, can rock any outfit from princess to her own hair, and has the best time management skills out of anyone I know. Halloween and Bayonetta just goes great together like high heel shoes and small caliber pistols. And what’s great about dressing up like her is that, like the Saint’s Row Boss, it can be practically anything save for two rules. One: low profile glasses are a must and two: the actual costume must a little provocative. Hey don’t look at me, I didn’t make up the rules, I just enforce them in a holiday devoted to candy and scaring people. If Bayonetta is not a fav then just disregard today pick; however if your brave, bold, and got the goods (and your know it) then suit up and strike a prose – your time is witch time this year.

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Vault Boy)

Vault Boy

Now this one is a bit of a cheat seeing as Fallout has been a thing for a while now, the iconic Vault Boy (sometimes Pip-Boy) however was never the main character of the series, just a throwback mascot. Recently however there was a game called Fallout Shelter, which gave the Vault Boy and his people(?) a chance to create a perfect vault. Because of this game the Vault Boy makes the list – not that it stopped fans of the series from dressing up like the VB anyway. All you need is a jumpsuit (blue and yellow are the official colors) and a number on the back (any number will due) and your done. However any harden vault dweller knows that the jumpsuit is a blank canvas just waiting for your artistic edge. Add shoulder pad, some bandoleers, maybe a pistol or two. How about a flight cap, some cardboard wings, and some tube socks. Put on a dog suit and make the jumpsuit for your dog, with Vault Boy it means possibly, expression, and the fact your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Take advantage of it this month, just don’t scavenge all the candy for yourself.

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Darth Malgus)

100080-darth-malgus-005

The next Star Wars movie is right around the corner which means nothing but that galaxy far far away will be on the people’s lips. Might as well get a early drop on the whole thing by become Darth Malgus from swtor for this Halloween. In addition to being one of the toughest and well respected Sith in the game, but he tried to create a more perfect Empire by naming himself Empire and tried to take over. Betrayal and ambition aren’t uncommon within the Sith (why do you think there’s only two in the movies) but Malgus had the foresight to do away with the ran pent racism and political in fighting when he took over. Sadly his reign didn’t last long and ended up dying – or did he? Anywho Darth Malgus has the coolness of Vader without the stigmata of the prequels to tie him down, fought a Jedi Grand Master and a hardened trooper commando at the same time, and looks good in black. He’s a lock for this years’ choice.

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Splatoon Inkling)

Splatoon Inkling

Boy or Girl this one’s a lock for kids. Not to say adults couldn’t pull of the look, shoot mostly adults play the game, but there’s so few video game characters these days that would fit kids. All an inventive parent would need is a squid hat of some kind (which is EZ to find these days) and a super soaker (non filled of course) and BAM your done. Whether or not your kids want to go as an Inkling is another matter entirely. If they don’t then it will be your time to shine, just don’t get carrier away with accuracy. People don’t like trick or treaters that paint their houses with giant people sized rollers – don’t ask me how I know this.

Gameroween 2015: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Master Chief)

Master_ChiefSync

Hey, hey, hey people it’s October and you know what that means: Gameroween is back! That’s right, during this month we here at the Armada give you people some awesome costume ideas for Halloween. Now in Gameroweens past we focused on a random mix of game characters and it was good. Then last year we focused on smash characters for the then upcoming Super Smash Bros game. This year I think we’ll stick to a theme again, and that theme is resent video game characters – like Master Chief.
Ah Master Chief the quintessential space marine, although many would say that Doomguy would own that title, but the Chief is more recent than him plus Death Battle proved Chief’s a much better space marine overall. I mean he defeated three armies, survived no win situations multiple times, a master of arms and vehicles, and to top it all off he destroyed two galaxy ending weapons – by himself; Shepperd needed to unite the galaxy to help destroy the reapers. So he goes by the rank ‘Master’ honestly, and the best thing is anyone can be a Spartan and have any color armor too. Thanks to Halo 2 multiplayer people have been pimping out their avatars for years so why not their costumes. No matter how you make your John-117 you’ll get bonus points if you have a window’s phone as well. Why? Because Master Chief is nothing without Cortana.

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (The rest of the Smash cast)

super-smash

Well people Halloween is here already and despite my best efforts (thanks to poor planing) I couldn’t showcase all of this years Smash contestants for costume choices. However since the 3DS version of the game been out for a while now not only have you all played it, but I’m sure you all have chosen your favorites for the upcoming home console release. Well hype up your favorite character by going as them for Halloween: show your Dedede pride, tell people why Greninja is great, make the Pikmin your pick, etc. Whosoever your favorite wear it on your sleeve, your head, and your toes because on November 21 words will mean nothing and the true Super Smash Bros will begin. Today though we get fat with candy – Happy Halloween!

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (PAC-MAN – Again)

PAC-MAN

Before Yoshi and Kirby there was the original hungry hero, eater expert, consumer commando: PAC-MAN. This one was the real surprise of this year’s Smash and believe me, this pill popper can throw down. Using familiar PAC icons like the ghosts, power pellets, and fruits; PAC-MAN keeps the other fighters on their toes with glorious 80’s 8-bit tactics. As for how to go as this plucky puck for Halloween fortunately this was also a Gameroween pick in the past that all Armada viewers can go back to anytime. Come on, PAC-MAN is the perfect choice for you candy lovers out there; you can say you’re staying in character when the bowl of choice goodies get gobbled.

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Mega Man)

Mega Man

Now, depending on who you talk to, Mega Man is a character that many believe was abandon by Capcom. While I don’t personally believe it, there are alot of examples that would make a die hard blue bomber fan see it that way. Even Mega Man’s co-creator Keiji Inafune (Dr.Light, out of canon, as it were) is creating a game called Mighty 9 where its hero is very similar Mega Man himself – yet Capcom is oddly quiet about it (well as far as I know). Anyway I say Capcom still cares otherwise they wouldn’t let this living dynamo fight in smash this year. And for you purists out there, worry not, they ‘got’ Mega Man right in Smash; he’s fighting like they ripped him out of his 8-bit games. Now as to dress like the main mega man I got one word for you: blue – and lots of it! It’s even OK if you don’t have a mega buster (although bonus points if got one ready to go) but you’ll need a helmet otherwise people will think you’re part of the blue man group – unless that’s what you’re going for then never mind.

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Little Mac)

little Mac

He could’ve been a champ, he could’ve been a contender! Well technically he was a contender & a champ but only with the aid of a player’s skills. Little Mac, despite his small size, had one mean Star Punch that could send even Mike Tyson into Dreamland. Thanks to the 2009 remake Little Mac is making a comeback, and he even got invited to greatest fight tournament in history (sorry Budokai Tenkaichi). A boxer for a costume make seem a little unimpressive, but like Little Mac himself proved: it ain’t size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog. Meaning a costume is only as good as person wearing it; show some razzle-dazzle, some quick foot work, charge that super meter, and if all else fails pull out the pink track suit – the ladies luv the track suit.

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Meta Knight)

Meta Knight

There he is, the original bad boy of Dream Land – Meta Knight! He’s a mystery, wrapped in a enigma, stuffed in a nesting doll, you never know what his motivations are. Sometimes he’s trying to save dream land, other times he’ll try to conquer it, on one hand he’ll defend a sacred piece of the Star Rod to keep ultimate evil from returning, other times he uses phenomenal cosmic powers to awaken the strongest warrior in the galaxy – just to fight it. Meta Knight is definitely his own man. Sadly his actual skills in Smash are hit or miss, but hey maybe I couldn’t handle the awesome powers of the Meta Knight. As for him as a costume it’s pretty simple; other than a spiky sword (its name Galaxia in semi-canon) and a cape (wings are optional) the only key item you need is a mask over your face. Since Meta Knight is mostly face, similar to Kirby, what else you wear is completely up to you. Now I know that is almost like Vega, but when you show them Galaxia they’ll quickly get the point (Get it? Because Vega doesn’t use a sword and a sword is pretty pointy in general – you get it).
