Game Review – Fire Emblem Fates (Conquest)

fire-emblem-fates-conquest-3ds-review-2

People, out of all the popular games out there, Fire Emblem is the series I know the least. Never had the time or desire. However I know which way the winds are blowing so it was going to be now or never. So for my first FE experience I chose the harder of the two current titles because I maybe new FE but not to gaming in geneal. Also Birthright seems pretty straightforward and where is the challenge in that. Hoo-Boi there’s challenge in Conquest! Always out numbered, most times out gunned, and at the disadventage because your side is bad (mostly) and people trust you (again mostly). However I don’t regeat my choice because the story feels much stronger from this point-of-view and sometimes to take down an evil king, that is your adopt-a-daddy, you got to do it behind enemy lines. Worry not though, both titles give you the oppostion to change the diffaculty and elmiate perma death from character defeats. Also you can pimp out your street pass castle to improve your army’s stats, weapons, armors, and even relatonships. You get bored? No problem just go a-raiding to other street pass castles for resources, gold and glory – but becareful some of those castles are very well defended. I’m not even done and I’m already hooked into the Fire Emblem life sytle. From the story, to the combat, and all the little things in between Fates is a real gem. Best of all – no matter which side you choose, there will be a 3rd part of the story as DLC that will explore Fates entire and unite all against the true enemy. I can’t wait, foruanetly I’ve got plenty to do in conquest while I do.

Game Review: Project X Zone 2

project-x-zone-2-boxart-1

They’re back! And just in time for the new year, from the good people of video games (some of them anyway): Project X Zone 2. So the story is giant gold chains some how break reality and iconic video game characters join forces to find out why and stop it. Yes I know there’s more to the story, but you don’t play PXZ 2 for the story, you play to see Jin & Kazuya from the Tekken series team up with with Phoenix Wright and Mia from Ace Attorney do an awesome 81 hit combo with with Chrom & Lucina from FE Awakening. Other than adding new characters, a shop to buy items, and including some customization options; Project X Zone 2 is just like Project X Zone. Although the original game did have better music than the sequel and I kind of miss the avatar characters, Kogoro & Mii, from the first game; Project X Zone 2 is a safe, but faithful follow up to the series. If your a fan of strategy titles with some fighting game elements in it, or a fan of the first game, then this will be a no brainier. Everyone else: try before buy.

Games and Gear (of 2016): Fire Emblem Fates

Yes it’s another Nintendo game; don’t look at me like that it’s not my fault Nintendo’s on their A game this year.

Armada’s E3 picks: Fire Emblem Fates (2016)

I love RPGs, I do, but I didn’t always, and because of that some great titles have sliped through the cracks for me. The Fire Emblem series is one of them; I mean I’ve to play them – heck I’ve got the original game on my 3DS right now and do I play it? No. However Fire Emblem will not be ignored and has showcased their latest offering this year: Fire Emblem Fates. Players take on the role as a young royal who’s caught in the middle of two warring kingdoms and must decide which side to side with. Now the catch, like Pokémon, is that the game has two versions of this title: Fire Emblem Fates – Birthright and Fire Emblem Fates – Conquest. The version you get will dictate your character’s allegiance throughout the rest of the story. An odd way to go about a simple choice (good or evil) but Fates also chock full of characters, story, modes, weapons, castle customization options, PVP arenas, street pass goodies & amiibo support. So it would make sense to separate that plot choice into two games to make sure Fire Emblem Fates is a complete game(s) (or they like money – and who doesn’t). Anyway this game is already out in Japan but anywhere else has to wait next year.
