Games & Gear of 2015: Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (2/20/2015)

So Pop Star’s favorite Star Warrior Kirby has gone on many crazy adventures and defeated many bad guys as well. However most would agree that his most trying adventure (or at least for the player) was ‘Kirby: Canvas Curse’ where Kirby was turned into a ball and needed the assistance of a magic paint brush to move around. Well I hope Kirby (and players) are ready for more rolling action as Kirby and the Rainbow Curse isn’t far from being release. This time around Dream Land’s color has been has been jacked by unknown forces and froze everyone solid. If it wasn’t for Elline, a paintbrush headed girl, Kirby would have been stuck & colorless like the rest of the planet. However because of the curse affecting him, like before, Kirby can only roll as his form of moment. So in order to save the day and to walk again Kirby follows Elline towards the unknown void that stole the color. Will he be successful stuck as a ball and who is behind this attack – play the game this month and find out. Oh! And everything’s clay now, no reason – just whimsey.

Gameroween 2014: Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Kirby-again)

Kirby, Kirby, Kirby is a name you should know, because he is as video game as anything! In fact he was the first costume choice we ever suggested when we introduced Gameroween back in dickety 2 ’11. So instead of writing a new post on why Kirby is still a great video game costume, while still maintaining the Smash Bros theme of this year, I’ll provide the link of the Kirby post I written and save some time, effort, and repeating myself – everybody wins (especially me).

Gameroween 2013 – Video Game Characters that make awesome costumes (King DeDeDe)

Aright this next choice is a personal favorite character of mine, King DeDeDe, because we have a lot in common. We both look pretty good in a robe and a hat, we both command armies of almost useless red shirts, and while we both look innocent and unassuming we will smack up a pink punk for eating the last pumpkin cream pie (plus he b-slapped Bowser once and that’s pretty awesome). The latter is pretty much why he’s Kirby enemy most of the time, not for evib or to conquer the world or whatever but because he’s greedy for food and jealous of Kirby fame. Despite that though, he often times tries to protect his unconfirmed Kingdom from real threats like Dark Matter and Nightmare – he’ll even put aside his belligerence to help Kirby save the day. So yeah DeDeDe in fact is not a villain, but an Anti-Hero so Hail to the king baby,

What Santa brought me (Mini Game Review) – Kirby: Mass Attack

Now don’t worry people, this isn’t some half-massed cross over event that features everyone’s favorite puffball (Kirby) and Commander Shepard taking down reapers. No, Kirby: Mass Attack is titled such because Kirby has been dissected into ten clone Kirby’s by the dark magic of Necrodeus, leader of the skull gang (trust me; it’s less disturbing than it sounds). So the bad news is that like this Kirby can’t eat and copy the powers of his enemies (and that’s pretty bad); but to the good with his new man power he can gang up and overpower his foes with sheer force alone. Sounds simple right? Well you should know by now nothing ever that simple with Kirby. The sum of his parts can be easily dispatched in this game because there are so many hazards and things that want to kill you. Also you don’t control one Kirby bit at a time, you control all of them in a pile. As such players direct the pink armada through the use of the stylist; you can tap a space and they’ll go to it, hold down in a direction and they’ll keep moving constantly and so on. Players can also flick Kirby’s’ at something to take it down or grab it. They can even still fly if you hold down on the Kirby mass and ‘draw’ them a path like Kirby: Canvas Curse.

And that’s it pretty much; you must navigate between lands, fighting enemies as unique as ever, and all the while trying to micro manage the Kirby entourage into an elite fighting force. It’s just now I realize that Kirby is one of the few gaming icons that has evolved over the years. Sure they go back to the cash cow formula every couple of games, but every so often they try something different to shake up the status quo – I applaud this. I miss the copy powers it this game, but for all intended purposes this is the perfect definition of a video game: imaginative, innovative, can be enjoyed by little kids but offer challenges for adults, heck as a DS game you can play it anytime you want, anywhere you want. So yeah, I liked Kirby: Mass Attack for the reasons I stated above; come on with that face like a puppy and a new borne baby it could’ve have been bad and I still would have passed it – fortunately I didn’t have to sell out today (just a joke people, a joke – put those torches and pitchforks down).

Gameroween – Video Game Characters that make good costumes (Day 1)

Halloween is only 15 days away from us all people; but it’s more than its Celtic beginning or the sugar industry trying to make kids (and us by proxy) fat and happy. No, when it comes to this spooky time of the year – it’s all about the gear baby! Where the whole world for one day becomes cosplayers and no one asks why. So in celebration of that fact, Armada will present a daily segment called ‘Video Game Characters that make good costumes’ until the witching hour has arrived. Starting with the pink powerhouse himself – Kirby. Now this could be the easiest costume to make, it’s basically a ghost (a white bed sheet with two cut out eye holes) but only pink with red shoes (come to think about it, it could a perfect setup for Pinky as well). For more hardcore ‘weenies out there, get a rounded costume of some kind, put the pink sheet over it, then put flip-flops on your hands, and boom – instance Kirby. The best thing about this choice is that when you pig out on candy you can say: “I’m staying in character” to retain your dignity. got this pic, but was incorrect about Kirby being a 'anime' character. Nice try though.
