This just in (Or not) – The Olympics wants to eliminate Wrestling from the games (BOOOO!!! – Oh the crowd didn’t like that Jim)

Ladies and Gentleman most of the staff of the Armada are hardcore wrestling fans, yes we admitted it, let’s the arrows fall where they may. A truer sport you won’t find because wresting requires strength, speed, intelligence, endurance, and a passion to keep you driving forward. And all of that’s even before you add all the pyrotechnics, steel chairs, and champion belts. By the inferno people Greco-Roman style wrestling was one of the founding events of the original Olympics. Well if the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has their way this proud legacy sport will be gone from the games for good. It is beyond the reasoning of many, including the people here at Armada, why wresting is on the chopping block while, let’s just admitted here people, lesser sports like horseback riding and freaken badminton are still on the card. IOC claims this decision is to keep the sports on the Olympic “relevant to sports fans of all generations”. I call shenanigans on this because, no matter what side of the discussion you’re on personally, pro-wrestling is a force that has legions of fans across the world. The stories, rivalries, and colorful personalities are great, but if you take wrestling out of pro-wrestling all you have left is boring melodramas without soul – so yeah wrestling is relevant.

All is not lost however; wrestling can still make it if they get chosen as an ‘additional sport’ by the committee in September. Its competition also vying for the spot is baseball/softball, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, wakeboarding and wushu so it looks very likely it will make it. Fortunately many campaigns, wrestling promotions, and organizations are fighting back as we speak to not only get it on as the addition sport for the 2020 Summer Olympics’ but  have wrestling returned as a standard event for all future game – as it should be. The Video Game Armada will also do its part as well by added the hash tag: # wrestling is relevant to twitter. Come on people, fight for your right to suplex today!

Sweet Christmas! – WWE Ring the bell

The Christmas Season puts everyone in a festive mood, from average joes like us to 441 lbs, 7ft tall giants that could kill you with one punch. Yes even the good folkes at World Wresting Entertainment takes time out from causing each other tremendous amounts of pain to one another and sing about how awesome the holidays are. And if you’re thinking this is quite surreal I guarantee you’re not the only one with that thought in your head.

Character Quotes – Ken Anderson aka Mr. Kennedy/Anderson

MR !!!!

“Pro wrestling is real, people are fake!”

OK people I got my high and mighty pants on so bear with me. *Ahem*

I am a wrestling fan, always had been since the ‘attitude era’ and a little before that. I’m proud to admit that to anyone and everyone, there is something about wrestling that not like other forms of entertainment. Where the audience watches the athletes not only doing battle in the ring but before and/or afterwards. We identify with them, we rally to support or defeat them, and we’re excited when they come to our towns and countries to settle their conflicts of the day. And while I’m not here to argue where the wrestlers being and the ‘entertainment’ ends it is clear that pro-wrestling effects our culture big or small. It never fails though, sooner or later you’ll meet the person who will always spout ‘Wrestling isn’t real’. As if fans of wrestling have a learning disability or somehow made a mistake in their program of choice on TV. What makes WWE or TNA any less ‘real’ than say ‘Jerseyshore’, ‘The Hills’, or even anything on the Fox News Network. Compared to those examples (and many more), professional wrestling is Masterpiece Theater wrapped in Crime and Punishment. Yet the arrogance continues, and will do so until the end of time I’m afraid. Now wrestling organizations have nothing to fear from these people, after all they continue to make money hand over fist; but watching TNA one night brought a smile to my face because one of their newly acquired wrestler, Ken Anderson, was wearing a t-shirt with today’s character quote on it for all the world to see. That was a ‘crowning moment of awesome’ for the industry; because not only does it put things in perspective about sports entertainment and general society as a whole but they did it in tee-shirt form – excellent.
